International Advocacy Internship

A transformative program that empowers students to address systemic challenges in underserved communities, advocating for equity, education, and lasting social change.

About the International
Advocacy Internship

The International Advocacy Internship Program empowers students to champion human rights, social justice, and community development initiatives in underserved communities. Leadership Initiatives partners with community leaders and advocates in sub-Saharan Africa to address critical social issues and promote equitable solutions.

Through this program, student interns collaborate with Project Coordinators in northern Nigeria to tackle pressing advocacy challenges such as child rights, gender equality, access to education, and combating systemic injustices. Over seven months, interns work to amplify local voices, raise awareness, and drive impactful change.

Interns gain practical experience in advocacy, policy analysis, and community organizing while honing skills in research, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration. This immersive program equips students to address global social challenges effectively and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Key Components

Interns gain hands-on experience in advocacy, community engagement, and social justice while developing skills in research, communication, and cultural competency. This immersive program provides a unique opportunity to see how informed action and collaboration can address systemic challenges, empower communities, and promote lasting change, offering students a deeper understanding of global advocacy and social responsibility.

Interns start by collaborating with Project Coordinators, local leaders, and community members to uncover pressing advocacy issues. They design and implement comprehensive baseline community surveys and perform targeted research to gain a detailed understanding of systemic challenges and the community's specific needs. Their efforts are informed by local expertise, fostering culturally informed, contextually relevant solutions that align with the community’s priorities.

Developing Awareness Campaigns

Interns design and implement campaigns to promote human rights, equality, and social justice. These campaigns focus on topics like combating gender-based violence, advocating for children’s education, or raising awareness about legal protections. Interns create engaging materials such as videos, posters, and presentations to amplify their messages.
