Content Overview: Welcome to Leadership Initiatives

Leadership Initiatives (LI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has worked since 2002 to empower grassroots leaders to create sustainable change in their communities. Built on the belief that lasting progress begins with local ownership, LI partners with community leaders to design solutions that are relevant, effective, and sustainable. Its five-year support model ensures long-term mentorship, resources, and infrastructure for every project. Over the years, LI has collaborated with organizations such as Microsoft YouthSpark, the Starbucks Foundation, and the International Youth Foundation to expand its reach and impact.

The International Internship Program (IIP) is a seven-month virtual program that connects high school students from around the world with entrepreneurs, public health workers, and community advocates in Northern Nigeria. Participants work in one of three tracks: Business Development, Public Health, or International Advocacy, researching, designing, and helping to implement real-world solutions. The program follows clear policies and professional standards, including a Code of Conduct, attendance requirements, assignment guidelines, and fundraising responsibilities. Active participants gain benefits, including free SAT and ACT preparation through PrepScholar, personalized letters of recommendation, college essay support, and eligibility for the Global Fundraising Award.
